Connected to Nature, Nurtured by Play, Inspired by the Child

PEDAGOGY

My pedagogy begins with the principles of the EYFS as the core framework to which elements from the Curiosity Approach, Steiner, Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Pikler & Ta Whariki are added; then all woven together with STEM Learning and Hygge's wellbeing and togetherness to create the inclusive, strengthened pedagogy that truly supports and encompasses the unique developmental journey of every child.

VISION

To provide a rich, inspiring nature-based environment with an eclectic mix of inspiring wooden, hand-made toys, loose parts, natural materials, open-ended resources and beautiful authentic real-life materials which are designed to encourage and inspire each and every child's learning To encourage each child to engage and practice their skills, test their theories and build upon what they already know, to enable them to grow into confident, independent learners who are able to reach their full potential.

AIMS

We are one community - children, parents, myself and everyone else who is connected to my setting. We all belong, and our individuality and heritages are understood and respected. I lead by example. I endeavour to eliminate discrimination and exclusionary practices; and encourage and foster the children's understanding of this in an age-appropriate way. There are no outsiders, everyone is different. We celebrate our differences. Inclusion defines my values, attitudes, practices and policies across everything I do in my setting. I work hard to ensure that everyone feels safe, comfortable and welcome. I actively promote equality and the children's understanding of the Protected Characteristics through their everyday learning and play, so that the children develop age-appropriate understanding. Each child is recognised and celebrated as a special, unique individual with their own ways of learning and their own diverse range of experiences.

A WOVEN APPROACH

Child-Led Learning

Your child is placed clearly at the centre of their learning. Children's own interests, curiosity and choices guide their learning.

I focus on the process rather than the product, which means that the experience and learning are the main goals, not the final outcome.

Purposeful

Planning in the Moment

This happens through spontaneous teachable moments, mostly unplanned which stem from a child's curiosity and interests during their play and learning.

PLODs (Possible Lines of Development) or (Next Steps) are integral to that moment's learning rather than 'an add on' for next time. Your child may not want to go back to their learning, and the teaching moment is lost.

Connected by Nature

Through real life experiences, children learn about the inter-relationship of all things.

This helps them think about the bigger questions in the world around them - the environment, sustainability and the climate. Connecting to nature requires active engagement with the natural world around us

It is our responsibility to uncover each child’s strengths, each child’s interests, each child’s approaches to learning in order for every child, every day to find their learning meaningful and motivating. Curious learners shape the future
